MARYA Fall/Winter 2012

Brainchild of lahore based designer Marya Javed, MARYA has created a niche for itself in the fashion retail market of Pakistan in just a short time span. Backed by the designer’s unique aesthetic for western cuts, the prêt-à-porter line offers trendy and comfortable party wear for women. After the launch of the label in the Summer of 2012, MARYA pieces have been creating quite a buzz, with the sharply tailored blazers & printed pants being quite popular at the recently concluded PFDC L’Oreal Paris Bridal Week.

With the Fall/Winter 2012 collection just around the corner , the Label is evolving to be an exciting new addition to the handful of good pret designers of Pakistan. Brilliantly shot by Deevees, the shoot marks the modeling debut of the super gorgeous Mariam Shah - and boy does she look promising ! Anyone else also thinking she belongs to a VOGUE cover? ;)

Styled by Marya herself & Your ‘s truly :) , here’s a sneak peak of what MARYA Fall/Winter Line has to offer . The collection consists of Sharply tailored Blazers, Printed Tapered Pants, Palazzos, Jumpsuits , knit tunics & blouses. The exhibition will be held at ‘Fashion Pakistan Lounge’ Lahore on Saturday 3rd Nov’2012 from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Meesha Shafi at the 56th BFI London Film Festival

We’ve all come across that statuesque black & white image of Meesha Shafi from the recently concluded 56th BFI London Film Festival . Thought we would reserve our comments until we get our hands onto the colored full lengths… And here it is. Wearing a custom handmade lace Couture gown by Norwegian designer Nina Skarra, Meesha attended the D.a.r.e gala screening of her Hollywood debut movie ‘The Reluctant Fundamentalist” at the Festival.

Lace overlays can generally be tricky , especially with camera flash (it’s borderline ‘shiny’ in the picture too), but Boy did she nail it. The retro Marilyn Monroe waves & the red lips make her look like she’s straight out of a Hollywood classic. She was styled by Norway based designer Aman Faiz

P.S. Nina is based in London & New York & has dressed celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Penelope Cruz and Crown Princess of Norway Mette Marit.

Aamina Sheikh for ‘Josh’ promotional tour in India

While it was an embellished Saamia Ahmed ensemble for the opening night, for the press conference Aamina opted for an animal print Maheen Karim maxi dress (to no one’s surprise). Pardon us for not being over the moon about this look. It was the overall styling of an otherwise good dress that was a downer for us. She could have fared it much better minus the blingy evening clutch & with tamer hair (in a side braid or chignon).

Iram was wearing purple ‘Butter Blocks’ tunic by EGO, that she also modeled for the Brand sometime back (picture below). You can shop the kurta at Daraz.pk here.

Of Premieres : Aamina Sheikh at MAMI Festival Mumbai

Think my heart skipped a beat when I saw these. Aamina is touring India these days for the premiere of her upcoming movie “Josh” at the MAMI Film Festival Mumbai. Ayyan Ali on ‘Geo Shaan se’

Also making an appearance at one of the recent airings of Geo Shaan Se was Ayyan Ali , flaunting that figure in colored jeggings, a black tube top & cropped black blazer. While we really liked Ayyan’s outfit choice & the fact that she went for block heels to go with it, it was the Barbie-Doll hair that Killed it ! Hard to keep eyes off that thick mass of locks , reminiscent of Nabila’s Trend show that Ayyan walked at PLBW recently. That’s drawing wrong fashion inspirations Ayyan ; the show was’nt well received for precisely the same reason.

Nonetheless, the fact that she’s so pretty definitely helped. What do you think?

Mahira Khan : In Nida Azwer

It’s been a while that Mahira made it to these pages & we’re glad it was for good. A recent show of ‘Geo Shaan Se‘ had her put in a guest appearance to raise Breast Cancer awareness . She looked pretty & elegant in a monochrome Nida Azwer ensemble with matching kolhapuri chappals and vintage jhumkas.

Khirad nostalgia much? Or are you missing those locks as much as we are :(
